What should a book marketing proposal include?
Look for a defined reader audience, book positioning, campaign deliverables, channels, budget responsibilities, reporting and review points. Separate the service fee from advertising spend and production expenses. A useful proposal explains what activity will be delivered and how performance will be reviewed. It should not promise a fixed number of sales, reviews or bestseller status.
Check whether the book is ready for promotion
Marketing is easier to evaluate when the cover, description, format, price and reader promise are aligned. Share your retailer links, existing audience and the work already completed. If the book is not yet published, explain the planned release stage. Ask whether the first phase should address the book’s presentation or launch assets before expanding promotional activity. This avoids spending against an unclear offer.
Define the audience and the campaign assets
Describe the reader the book serves and why that person might choose it. Fiction, memoir and specialist nonfiction often need different messages and audience research. Ask which assets are included: landing-page copy, promotional graphics, email copy, advertising creative or media materials. A list of channels alone is not a campaign scope. Each deliverable should connect to the audience and a practical next action.
Make measurement and account access explicit
Agree how the provider will report completed activity and available performance data. Visits, clicks and enquiries measure different actions from book purchases; ask how the reporting distinguishes them. Advertising and retailer systems may not provide a complete view of every reader journey. Define account ownership and access before launch. Set a review point to decide what to continue, revise or stop based on the information available.
Prepare a marketing quote brief
Send the book title, genre, reader audience, release date, retailer links, existing author platform and proposed budget range. State whether you need a launch campaign or support for a published book. American Writers Club can discuss a scoped book promotion project around those priorities. Keep expectations tied to agreed activity and reviewable results rather than guaranteed sales.
